After being killed off of Kevin Can Wait, Erinn Hayes is making her return to the small screen in a new Amazon series titled The Dangerous Book for Boys.
In an interview with , Hayes explained why her new project is different from the CBS show, in which she co-starred alongside Kevin James for two seasons. “One is a sitcom, it’s three jokes a page… You’re not diving into too much real emotion. And I had a wonderful time on that," she said.
"This show is so true to life, and it’s… cinematic," Hayes added of The Dangerous Book for Boys. "The jokes can be the jokes and they come when they come, but it’s not like you gotta hit that thing."
The series follows a middle-class family who is coping with the sudden passing of the patriarch, and Hayes plays Beth McKenna, the matriarch. “It was just so beautiful to get a chance to dive into the reality of this family’s experience and know that you just want to make it as real as possible,” Hayes shared. The show is based off of the by the same name, was co-created by Bryan Cranston, and is currently streaming on Amazon.
When asked whether she's glad to have moved on from Kevin Can Wait, Hayes told People, "Listen, I always love to work."
The 41-year-old actress may have a bittersweet feeling about her departure from the CBS show, since she revealed in June that she was actually let go. "Very sad, I had a great experience season 1. Thank you for all the support from our wonderful fans," she wrote in the tweet below.
Producer Rob Long defended the decision to kill off Donna, Hayes' character, and said it was done out of "respect" for Hayes's character. "It seemed like the only right and fair way to treat her character," he said.
