A 1920s Cottage Dials Up the Curb Appeal

Small tweaks can make all the difference.

When it comes to your home's architecture, you might assume that what you see is just what you get. But there's no reason you should succumb to a drab exterior; even small changes can be impactful.

Claudia, of the remodeling company , saw potential in this quaint Nashville home that had been vacant since 2010. She punched up the facade with new maroon shutters (a suprisingly practical hue that impresses, but doesn't make a home the "crazy colorful house" on the block).

The dull concrete stoop was painted to match, and shaker shingles dress up the canopy to offer just enough style and warmth. Finally, a few plants add polish and bring life back to the dreary yard.
