There's something fishy about these skeletons: Rather than two legs, the life-size faux figures feature tails—yes, as in the aquatic creatures of folklore. Party supplies store is selling mermaid skeletons for Halloween—and they're set to make a splash this year.

The mythical half-human, half-fish hybrid may not exist in real life, but these Halloween decorations look scary-realistic. Made of plastic, the skeletons measure 14 1/2" x 73". That's about six feet tall, if suspended upright. Put it on your porch for an oceanic- or pirate-themed display that's sure to turn heads, or hang in your house to scare the tails off your pets.

While one reviewer wrote that the mermaid is "harder than the average skeleton to pose," another said that the tail is "bendable and easy to pose and definitely worth the money."

At $60, the decorations are marked down 33 percent from the original asking price of $90. A bit of a splurge, sure, but the skeletons are show-stopping statement pieces you can reuse every year.

The last few years have seen a wave of mermaid ideas, from mermaid fairy gardens to mermaid blankets to mermaid pool floats. It was only a matter of time before the mythical creatures made their way into the spooky holiday—beyond the costume aisle, that is.

Other trends are trickling over into holidays, too: Just look at how zombie and pilgrim flamingo lawn ornaments have taken Halloween and Thanksgiving!
