Heavy jugs of laundry detergent may soon be things of the past thanks to one innovative gizmo.
The laundry egg from can clean clothes in your washer for up to three years without liquid or powder detergents, pods, or fabric softener. The small, plastic egg houses allergy and eczema-friendly mineral pellets, which generate suds in your washer to clean clothes completely naturally and without chemicals.
The gray and white pellets inside refresh your clothes by dissolving stains, spots, and grime found in fibers. The dark pellets help to separate dirt from fabric while the light pellets ionize the water to further remove filth from garments and soften the water (which also means no fabric softener necessary!). And according to the manufacturer, the chemical-free pellets are safe to use with all kinds of fabrics and materials.
They're easy to use and effective, but their low cost may be the most appealing feature. The largest egg, which retails for $31, lasts for 720 washes, which breaks down to about .04 cents per use.
While most customers give it stellar reviews on , some say it's not the best for cleaning stains, so you may want to pre-treat spots or pair it with a stain remover. "[It] works fine for clothes that are stain free, but does little to help with stains," one customer wrote. "I use it with a stain remover and that works well—glad to save [money] and the environment at the same time."
Other shoppers also tout its effectiveness, simplicity, and high-quality. "My clothes come out clean and fresh, and yes, it does last practically forever," another customer wrote. "And, I am disabled, so it's great that I'm not carrying heavy containers of detergent, any more." Plus folks say they love the subtle scents and the option to go fragrance-free, which is a great choice for those with sensitive skin.
