Dolly Parton might be a country-music superstar, but at the end of the day she likes to keep things simple. Luckily, her husband of 49 years, Carl Thomas Dean, understands her need for low-key downtime.
The famously private pair, who are hardly ever seen in public together, got hitched back in 1966 and have been happily married ever since. And Parton credits her longtime marriage to her husband keeping her down to earth, especially on their trips together.
"We like to get out in our little RV and just be simple," she told People. "I love to read, I love to cook, I love to be with my husband. I put on my little comfy clothes — I call them my baby clothes — and we just relax."
But it isn't just how they enjoy their time as a couple that has helped them maintain their union. Their different personalities help balance each other out.
"They say that opposites attract, and it's true," Parton said. "We're completely opposite, but that's what makes it fun. I never know what he's gonna say or do. He's always surprising me."
More importantly, Dean is a "a good man," added Parton. (That, and he probably knows to stay away from any redheads named Jolene.)
