The first person Jason Aldean played his new song, "You Make It Easy," for? His wife, Brittany Aldean.
"It made me think a lot about our relationship," he explained of the single from his new album, Rearview Town, in an Instagram video. "And of course she loved it. That's always a no-brainer. When your wife loves a song, then it's going on the record for sure."
Jason, 41, and Brittany, 29, have been married three years and have a son, four-month-old baby Memphis. But despite the title of the track, things haven't always been easy for the Aldeans. In fact, when they met, Jason was actually married to high school sweetheart and now ex-wife, Jessica (Ussery) Aldean, with whom he shares two daughters: Keeley (now 15) and Kendyl (now 10).
It was 2012, and Jason and Jessica had been married for 11 years—but they were struggling. After photographs appeared online of Jason with another woman, namely Brittany Kerr, then a Charlotte Bobcats cheerleader, aspiring model, and , Jason apologized and tried to patch things up with his wife.
Still, in 2013, Jessica and Jason filed for divorce. "We've been through a lot of ups and downs over the years as we grew up together as a couple," Jason told . "She will always be important to me because she is the mother of my children, and I know that we will both always make our daughters our number one priority."
Eventually, newly single Jason started dating Brittany, for which he received harsh judgment from critics. "I have made mistakes but i am a better person because of it, and wouldnt change a thing," he . "Im happier than i have ever been, so thank u to all the people who support us. We are happy and life goes on."
The happy couple gotand tied the knot March 21, 2015. They just recently celebrated their third wedding anniversary and look as in love as ever, often sharing sweet family photos on social media. Recently, Jason has started adding the hashtag #YouMakeItEasy, a nod to their love and his song.
Nearly a year ago, the newlyweds announced they were expecting their first child and shortly after revealed the gender. Brittany was 30 weeks pregnant with their baby boy when a gunman opened fire during Jason's set at Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas.
"As you can imagine my first instinct was to run to [Jason] and his was the same," Brittany wrote after the shooting. "As we laid behind equipment on stage with some of our road family, bullets flying past... all I could think was, 'I never even got to hold my baby.' We all made sure the others knew we loved them and then ran for cover where we stayed for the next couple of hours."
The birth of Memphis two months later helped Jason cope with the tragedy. "Within a couple months, man, I saw the worst thing you can possibly experience and then I saw the best thing you can possibly experience with him being born," he told People.
Jason dedicated his new album to the Las Vegas victims, and he will return to the city for the 2018 Academy of Country Music Awards, where he's performing and nominated for Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year. Oh, and Brittany will likely be right there by his side—a truly happy ending after a few not-so-easy experiences.
