It's not even Thanksgiving yet, but it's never too early to get excited about Christmas movies. Following the news that Netflix’s A Christmas Prince is getting a royal wedding sequel, the company announced earlier this year that it’s putting out yet another royal-themed Christmas romance: The Princess Switch.
Star Vanessa Hudgens broke the news on Instagram in June with a photo from the set with her costar, Nashville's Sam Palladio. “Did someone say a royal wedding?” she wrote. “So excited for you guys to see this one.”
After much anticipation, the first trailer for the new royal film is finally here and it's even better than we'd imagined.
According to a , the movie is a romantic comedy about Stacy, a "common" baker from Chicago, and Margaret, the Duchess of Montenaro. The two women look exactly alike and decide to switch places. (Presumably, Hutchens will play both parts.) “But things get complicated when they each fall in love with men know don't know their true identity,” Netflix teases.
It seems like a modern-day take on The Prince and the Pauper, set in the Meghan Markle era. Though some fans have pointed out more recent similarities, like Selena Gomez’s movie, , and even a Barbie movie, there have been countless retellings of The Prince and the Pauper over the years.
In the trailer, Margaret wants to see what it's like to be a "normal girl" for once, while Stacy gets to ride horses with a prince and try out a vaguely British accent. It's a Christmas miracle.
