Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli have faced quite the rollercoaster year. The famous pair had a seemingly perfect relationship from the time they married in 1997 until March 2019, when rumors about their alleged involvement in a widespread college admissions scandal started to circulate.

Now, the former When Calls the Heart star and her fashion designer husband are in the midst of a messy legal battle, which began after they reportedly used “bribery and other forms of fraud” to get their daughters, Olivia, 19, and Bella, 20, into USC, . Lori recently .

How Lori and Mossimo met and fell in love.

Lori was first married to Michael R. Burns in 1989. The couple divorced in 1996, and shortly after, she met Mossimo at a restaurant in Los Angeles. According to the couple dated two years before he surprised her with 500 roses and later proposed. They would not go on to host an over-the-top ceremony, though: The two eloped on Thanksgiving day in 1997.

"Moss and I had both been married before, so we thought, 'Well, it didn't really work out well for us the first time around, so maybe we'll elope and see how it goes and tell people,'" Loughlin admitted to . "We had talked about doing a wedding and we just thought, 'Let's get up and let's go do it.'"

Lori and Mossimo welcomed their first daughter, Isabella, about a year after they wed. Olivia joined shortly after in 1999. Both girls have a bourgeoning social media presence, but Lori was adamant that her children graduate from college. She once told the following about Isabella:

“She just finished her first year of college and she really enjoys it and I think she’ll get her degree. And I just said to her, ‘Look, have some back up plan. Get a degree and something else. You can study theater [and] whatever you need to also at school.’”

How the college admissions scandal has affected Lori and Mossimo’s relationship.

Everything went sideways in March 2019 when news broke of Lori and Mossimo’s alleged involvement in the college admissions scam.

They were among 50 people, including actress Felicity Huffman, alleged with various crimes. reported Lori and Mossimo were accused of paying $500,00 to William “Rick” Singer’s organization, Key Worldwide Foundation, which prosecutors now say was a front for accepting bribes. Lori was dropped from When Calls the Heart and the rest of her Hallmark projects in the wake of the scandal, and is likely not returning to the final season of Fuller House.

Lori and Mossimo currently face several charges, including money laundering, and mail and wire fraud. In April, both pleaded not guilty to all, according to The couple are attempting to stay strong amid the bombshell updates. A source told the pair celebrated Father’s Day as a family, and are “trying to keep things normal.”

Their next reported court date is on October 2. They could face up to 20 years, , in jail.
