Carrie Underwood has been the voice behind the theme song for NBC's Sunday Night Football since 2013. But when she debuted a new version this weekend, reports some fans were angry that she went in a different direction this time.
Underwood’s song, "Game On," debuted before the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers game on Sunday. Instead of the usual “Oh, Sunday night,” Underwood sings, “Game on, it’s Sunday night.”
Not all of her Sunday Night Football songs have included “Oh, Sunday night,” but they have since 2016, when they were plays on her song “Something Bad.” And many fans who have tuned into the weekend sporting event for years were fuming about Underwood’s new tune.
"Carrie Underwood was trying to do something new and I respect that... But if it ain't broke don't fix it!" one user wrote. Others rated it a "D+" and one fan requested, "Please change the song or go back to old one."
But not everyone was mad about the latest opening number, with many supporters hailing it as a fun new take on a classic.
Viewers praised Carrie for being, "Absolutely great. She is the best and what a voice." One user expressed his "unpopular opinion" that he loved the song—and the expecting mom, too. "I’ve never hated anything she has done, she is perfect," he said.
