Loyal viewers of The Voice tune in every week for the show-stopping singers and hilarious antics between the coaches. So when some of the artist’s performances were cut short during last week’s Battle Rounds, fans definitely noticed—and had a lot to say.
Some competitors like Natasia GreyCloud had their moments shown in their entirety. But audiences did not see the full run-down for other popular season 15 stars, like Katrina Cain and Rachel Messner from Team Blake and Jarred Matthew and Tyke James from Team Adam. And that tweak to the lineup did not sit well with followers.
“This format is really disappointing,” one Twitter user said. “So many fabulous contestants cheated out of the time of their lives!” Another made the point that, “We need to hear the entire performance to form opinions.”
Although it may appear disorienting to only see a portion of some of the singers, the reasoning behind the reality series’ decision is simple: Ikaroo.info confirmed with the show's reps that because there are so many amazing Battles, some have to be condensed to fit within the limited airtime. Especially on Tuesday nights, when the episodes are only an hour long.
Even with the shortened segments, the network still manages to pack in plenty of hysterical comments from the coaches (and questionable habits—we’re looking at you, Adam Levine), dramatic steals that stun everyone, and downright amazing song renditions that will have you humming all night long. And if you're still feeling unsure about who to root for in wake of the constricted screen time, may we suggest Kelly Clarkson’s coping mechanism?
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
