- Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek extended his contract through 2022.
- Previously, he hinted he was thinking of retiring after his contract expired in 2020.
- Wheel of Fortune hosts Pat Sajak and Vanna White are also staying on through 2022.
Earlier this year, Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek hinted he might want to retire in 2020. But it turns out he’s had a change of heart, because he’s decided to extend his contract through at least 2022, reports. He has hosted the game show since 1984.
Previously, Trebek had said his chances of staying were “50/50, a little less,” and he suggested either hockey announcer Alex Faust or CNN legal analyst Laura Coates as his replacement. The longtime star, 78, had taken some time off from the show earlier in the year for blood clots on his brain.
Trebek isn't the only beloved game show host to extend his contract, either. Wheel of Fortune hosts Pat Sajak and Vanna White followed suit, as well (they all work with Sony Pictures Television on their shows). Jeopardy! has run for 35 seasons, while Wheel has run for 36. Sajak even joked about his renewal on Twitter.
“Pat, Vanna and Alex are simply the best,” Sony Pictures Television chairman Mike Hopkins said in a statement. “Night after night, they seamlessly entertain generations of fans on two of the most beloved television programs on air. We are thrilled that they’ll continue to do so through 2022.”
And fans were thrilled their favorite hosts were sticking around, too.
