The official trailer for A Dog's Journey was just released and can someone please pass the tissues?
The upcoming movie brings to life the next chapter in the bestselling series by author W. Bruce Cameron. It's a highly-anticipated follow-up to his written work's first film adaptation, , and continues the story of a Very Good Dog named Bailey (Josh Gad). In the clip, Bailey begins by explaining his relationship with his beloved owner, Ethan (Dennis Quaid).
"I've lived a lot of lives as a lot of different dogs, but I always found my way back to Ethan," he says in a voiceover as the trailer shows a montage of his reincarnated lives over the years.
Then Bailey introduces C.J., Ethan's granddaughter and "the greatest new addition to [their] pack." Cue the waterworks about 45 seconds later, when Bailey is laying in his boy's lap and both of their ages really begin to show.
"Bailey, Bailey, Bailey. You've done so much for me," Ethan whispers to his dying dog. "When you come back next time, take care of C.J. She needs you like I needed you."
And just like that, I'm crying! On the bright side, Bailey has found a new purpose—and so his journey continues.
A Dog's Journey will be in theaters May 17.
