Sure, Tom Brady secured a record sixth Super Bowl ring on Sunday—but the New England Patriots weren't the only big winners of the night. Before kickoff, Gladys Knight took the turf for an incredible rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner."
Clad in a crystal-embellished white gown and sparkling booties, the 74-year-old performed a soulful version of the national anthem that received rave reviews from the Atlanta crowd and beyond.
"I could listen to Gladys Knight sing the National Anthem on repeat for hours. Wow," someone wrote on Twitter. "Gladys Knight should have dropped the mic. This was the best National Anthem at a #SuperBowl in a LONG time. Simply Beautiful," another person tweeted. "Gladys Knight just gave one of the best National Anthem performances I’ve ever seen!" someone else noted. "If Gladys Knight wanted to come back out for halftime, I would not be mad," another person added.
After the her show-stopping performance, the Grammy Award winner took to social media to show gratitude to all her fans. "Thank you for allowing me this moment to honor our great nation!" Gladys tweeted.
Gladys's powerhouse vocals, combined with a halftime show that brought in mixed reviews, had people even wishing the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member would come back for an encore!
"Am I the only one that wishes it as #GladysKnight doing the #PepsiHalftime," one person asked on Twitter. And one person summed it up by simply writing: "Gladys Knight > Adam Levine!"
No matter who you cheered for last night, (Go Pats!) fans of both teams can all agree Gladys was a true champ.
