Ricki Lake Opens Up About Her Husband's Death in Emotional 'Masked Singer' Reveal

"He was the best thing that ever happened to me."

When I first began planning my Wednesday nights around The Masked Singer, I had no idea I'd be finishing each episode a blubbering mess, but here we are! Just like last week's emotional unmasking of the Unicorn AKA Tori Spelling, this episode featured another heartbreaking reveal.

"Touchy Feely Clues" featured the Peacock, the Monster, the Bee, and the Raven. The characters seem to be getting more confident every time they step on stage, and the performances were all pretty impressive. By the end of the hour, the Raven, who belted out "Brave" by Sara Bareilles, was eliminated.

With her beak held high, the bird proudly pulled off her plumage to show her true identity: Ricki Lake! (And, to give credit where credit's due, judge Robin Thicke did guess this one correctly.) Now that we know the costumes are actually tied to the creatures' identities, host Nick Cannon quizzed the Emmy Award-winner on how she decided on her disguise.

"You know, the raven is about metamorphosis, it's about death, but it's also about rebirth," the talk show host noted. "And I went through a loss of my husband last year, and this really was an opportunity for me to sort of share my journey through his loss. He was the best thing that ever happened to me." Her late husband, Christian Evans, died by suicide in February 2017.

After her touching statement, Nick swooped in to offer some words of comfort. "Well, I know he's smiling down on you now," he assured her. "You dedicated your entire journey to him. It's a beautiful thing."

The exchange left just about everyone, including me, in tears. But with this experience under her belt and a new love interest, Ricki seems to be well on her way to "rebirth."
