If you watched the Criminal Minds season finale last night, then you’re likely still recovering from the massive bombshell the crime drama dropped at the end of the episode.

We knew that “Truth or Dare” wasn’t going to be your average Criminal Minds, considering that we were finally going to see David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) get married and the series hinted at an “emotional” cliffhanger, though emotional was an understatement.

Everything started out as normal with the BAU hunting down a criminal who was pitting his victims against each other. Things took a turn when Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) and J.J. Jareau (A.J. Cook) were taken hostage by the suspect, and J.J. was forced to reveal her deepest, darkest secret.

In a twist that no one saw coming, J.J. revealed that she’s, “always loved” Reid, despite the fact that she is married and has kids with her husband Will (Josh Stewart).

“I was just too scared to say it before, and now things are just really too complicated to say it now,” she said. “I’m sorry. But you should know.”

Naturally, Reid took this time to untie himself with a piece of shattered glass and save the pair from danger. But that didn’t get rid of the heartbreaking confession lingering in the air.

Later, at Rossi’s wedding, J.J. tried to backtrack on her admission. “What I said back there, I needed to say something that would get his attention and I needed to say something that would get your attention so I just wanted to throw him off balance,” she reasoned. Yeah, okay.

Reid (who was correct in not buying her comment at all) responded with, “Did you mean it?”

Do these two belong together or what!?

Though she didn’t answer him, her deep, lingering gaze suggests that YES, OF COURSE SHE MEANS IT, REID.

Fans were all over the place with their reactions. Some said they “always knew” the pair belonged together, and were ecstatic at their possible future.

I always knew it, then she married Will and I was so confused! @GUBLERNATION #CriminalMinds

Others were furious with the plot. “Will LaMontagne Jr. has been nothing but a wonderful man and deserves none of this,” one user wrote. “JJ and Reid…idk. I love them both, but they are such great friends,” said another. “AND if we lose Will bc of this I will be sad.” Some even suggested they were happy the series is ending if this is the direction they’re taking.

They really Ended season 14 of Criminal Minds like that huh....

JJ and Reid...idk. I love them both, but they are such great friends. AND if we lose Will bc of this twist I will be sad. Don’t do that to Will. I love his appearances. @GUBLERNATION @ajcookofficial @J0SHSTEWART #CriminalMinds

I'm glad JJ and Reid are ok. I was scared for a moment. I didn't want either them to be killed off. JJ loves Will. I don't think she will leave her hubby for Reid. #CriminalMinds

Regardless of if you’re team #Jeid or not, it seems like their possible couple-ness will not be going away anytime soon.

“We’re going to dive into that in the first two hours [of Season 15] because we can’t leave everybody hanging and then pretend it didn’t happen,” showrunner Eric Messer told TV Line. “It’s definitely a huge driver for the first handful of episodes that will help add layers to those characters again.”
