Mark Cuban is a lot of things: business titan, billionaire, Shark Tank star—you get the picture. But Mark is also a very involved parent to his and wife Tiffany’s three children, and you better believe he’s doing everything he can to make sure they follow in his very successful footsteps.
Case in point: Mark recently revealed the unexpected skill he wants his kids, Alexis, 16, Alyssa, 12, and Jake, 9, to learn ASAP. And if you guessed it was the art of entrepreneurship or deciphering what makes a great Shark Tank product, you’re wrong. In fact, it has to do with equipped with Alexa technology.
“Alexa skills and scripting Alexa skills is really, really easy. But everybody thinks it’s really, really hard. And so that disconnect is a great opportunity,” he said during the South by Southwest conference, according to . “And so I told my kids [and] other kids, learn how to script, and just go get your neighbors and set up all of these Alexa tools and you’ll make $25, $30, $40 an hour.”
Suggesting his daughters and son learn the ins and outs of Alexa, and then sell their services at a fee greater than any after-school job can provide sounds like textbook Mark advice. However, that does mean the trio will have to spend more time with technology—something Mark has tried to steer them away from by .
But at the end of the day, Mark just wants his kids to expand their horizons (and hopefully make a buck or two along the way).
“I push them to value learning,” he told . “I push them to be inquisitive about the world and understand what’s going on.”
