'The Voice' Coaches Adam Levine and John Legend Couldn't Stop Fighting Over This Singer

Kendra Checketts impressed the pros with her incredible cover of Alessia Cara's "Here."

The Voice coaches came out swinging during Monday night's episode of the NBC reality show. As host Carson Daly put it, Adam Levine and John Legend delivered a "one-two punch" during the Battle Rounds when they both tried to steal the same contestant.

The double steal came soon after two singers from Blake Shelton's team delivered a powerful rendition of Alessia Cara's "Here." Kim Cherry, 30, and Kendra Checketts, 19, earned unanimous praise from all four coaches for the duet, which showed off the "personality" and "passion" that Blake explained was necessary to perform the song.

He had to make a tough decision after the battle, but went with his "gut feeling."

"I ended up going with Kim because there's just something about her that I think is infectious," Blake explained. "But I gotta say, Kendra did give the performance of a lifetime."

After Blake picked Kim to stay on Team Shelton, the cameras caught Adam saying he disagreed with the choice.

"I thought homegirl was better," he whispered to John, referring to Kendra.

Perhaps the Maroon 5 singer should have kept his opinions to himself, because the rookie coach agreed—and moments later, they both slammed down their buttons to steal the hopeful contestant.

The crowd erupted with cheers in response to the exciting twist in Kendra's fate, and Carson asked the coaches what it was about the singer that made them want her on their teams.

"I have no idea what the hillbilly [was thinking]," Adam said, gesturing to Blake. "I think that you are amazing Kendra."

Following the veteran coach's testimonial, John took a different approach to try to win Kendra over. The EGOT winner admitted that it's his first time on the show, but he has confidence in Team Legend—and her voice.

"My metric for how I decide who I want to steal is, 'Do I think this person belongs on a team with so many other great singers?'" John explained. "My team is dope, but Kendra, you would be one of the best singers on [it] if you joined."

After some bickering back and forth (John nicknamed Adam "Last-Word Levine" 😂), Carson asked Kendra to make a decision.

The 19-year-old appeared torn as she explained that she has looked up to both of the "incredible" artists for her entire singing career. In the end, she chose Adam.

The coach—who used his final steal to get Kendra on his team—admitted that there was an added bonus to the victory.

"I love when I get to make Blake look dumb," Adam said.

Nothing sweeter than profiting off a hillbilly’s mistake #VoiceBattles
