Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson Met on 'American Idol' Long Before They Were Related

The "Stronger Than the Truth" singer has the sweetest relationship with "The Voice" coach.

Kelly Clarkson and Reba McEntire are our favorite related celebrities now, but back in 2002, Reba was simply Kelly's favorite singer.

Everyone knows that Kelly was the inaugural winner of American Idol. What they may not know, however, is that she also met her personal idol, Reba, thanks to the show. The duo performed for the first time together at a concert in 2002, and Reba recently opened up about the interaction to Ikaroo.info.

“This is the first time I sang with her. We did ‘Does He Love You,’” she recalls in the video above. “They told her when she won the very first American Idol that at the finals she could sing with her idol, and she chose me. So that’s the first time we got to meet. Little did we know we’d be relatives, we’d be in the same family.”

Fortunately, a YouTube user caught the historic moment . Kelly is visibly excited (and maybe even nervous?) to be on stage with Reba, who released her new album in April. Kelly says “Cool beans” multiple times, which only makes us love Kelly and miss the early 2000s even more.

Of course, this wouldn’t be the last time Kelly and Reba joined forces. Besides sharing multiple duets at events like the ACM Awards, they also share a family. Kelly married Reba’s stepson, Brandon Blackstock, in 2013, and now Kelly has the rare privilege of getting to call Reba a “rad grandma” to her and Brandon’s kids.

Reba clearly echoes Kelly’s warm sentiments. “She’s just an incredible person,” Reba tells us. “What you see is what you get, [there’s] nothing fake about Kelly.”
