Maelyn Jarmon has stolen the audience’s hearts during season 16 of The Voice. Her renditions of hit songs like “The Scientist” and “Mad World” have left viewers and the coaches speechless, and we wouldn’t be surprised if she was the next Chevel Shepherd (sounds like fans wouldn’t be all that stunned, either).
So just who is this soothing songstress that has everyone talking? Here’s what to know about the 26-year-old New York City resident who has everyone’s attention.
- Age: 26
- Hometown: Frisco, Texas
- Coach: John Legend

Who is Maelyn Jarmon’s boyfriend?
Maelyn revealed during the Top 13 performances that she’s dating a fellow artist. When explaining why the song, “The Scientist” spoke to her, she shared some details inside her relationship.
“I was really connecting with it, [it was] bringing me back to my current situation. I’m dating a musician, he’s been amazing but it’s been a process for both of us,” she told coach John Legend. To which he replied, “I know how it feels to have a famous partner.” (Hi, Chrissy Teigen!)
The lucky man in question is Johnny Murrell, who she’s been together with since at least 2014, according to posts on her Instagram. Though they’re apart, Johnny clearly supports Maelyn and her journey on The Voice—and has even been spotted in the audience a few times. He’s been posting sweet messages throughout her time on the show, and encouraging his followers to vote for her. How adorable is that!?
Maelyn is deaf in one ear.
When Maelyn was just two years old, she had tubes put in her ears to help treat recurring ear infections. Unfortunately, that led to permanent damage to her eardrums. with only 80% hearing remaining in the left.
But Maelyn continued to pursue her passion for singing, and she’s very open about her experience with viewers. “Being deaf in one ear, the most overwhelming interaction that I’ve had with fans are people who have hearing impairments,” she tearfully said on the show. "I was so taken back by that."
She started out on Broadway.
Maelyn started voice lessons when she was just 13 years old. She and her parents moved to New York when she was 17 so she could try to make it on Broadway, but when she turned 21, she decided she wanted to create original music instead—and that's exactly what will happen if she wins The Voice. Good luck to Maelyn!
