"16 years and it feels like we're just getting started..." Joanna, 41, captioned on Friday morning. "I love you Chip Carter Gaines #16"
Meanwhile , the other half of our favorite home improvement couple was sharing a few sentiments of his own: "Happy #16th anniversary Joanna! A.k.a. Jojo, joey, jo, boss, mom, ma ma, mommy, sweetgirl, kiddo,. My girl by any other name.. but my BEST day is still the day you officially became Joanna Lea Stevens Gaines!"
The dynamic duo first met back in 2001 at Joanna's father's Firestone tire shop in Waco, Texas. But it took a little while for sparks to fly—at least for Joanna.
During their early courtship, Chip, now 44, even remembers calling her a "cyborg" because of her reserved, cautious nature. That eventually changed, and they were married just two years later.
"Chip liked me a whole lot. He kind of scared me," admitted Joanna with a smile in a 2016 interview with . "I thought he was somewhat of a stalker. But then I realized he had a really good heart. We dated for a year and he proposed."
"When I learned how to embrace Joanna for who she is and really support her all the way, I feel like that was a real lightbulb moment for me in my relationship with her," Chip explained in the same conversation.
"...As I really enveloped this concept of 'I'm going to support her, and love her, and fight for her regardless,' I feel like that opened [her] heart to be able to reciprocate."
The rest, as they say, is history. The pair wed at the Earle-Harrison House in Waco, Texas on May 31, 2003, and five children followed (Drake, 14; Emmie Kay, 9; Duke, 13; Ella Rose, 13; Crew, 11 months).
As Chip wrote in of their wedding day, "I still look back at it as one of the best days of my life."
Happy, happy anniversary, Chip and Jo!
