We already knew that some of Miranda Lambert's newest album, Weight of These Wings, was a nod to the heartbreak she endured during her 2015 divorce from Blake Shelton. Though she's always kept mum on the specifics of their split, she's been candid about how she's dealt with the aftermath. "I just want to live a life full of everything. Some of that might mean nights on my porch crying, drinking whiskey, and going, 'Man this sucks right now,'" she told Cosmopolitan last year.
It's been a while since Lambert has mentioned the split, but last week, while giving a small show in Chicago, the country star opened up to the crowd.
"I got divorced so I started drinking a little extra," she said in a video recorded by a fan. "I found myself in Midtown in Nashville three nights in a row at like last call, lights are coming on, and I'm still sitting there. So I wrote a song about it."
That song was "Ugly Lights," a track on Wings which details Lambert's late nights.
And I don't try to justify the reason I'm not livin' right I wear my sadness like a souvenir I drink too much to fall apart That's how I fight this broken heart So what, if I feel comfortable in here
Happily, those days of sadness seem to be behind her. Lambert has been dating Anderson East for over a year, and she's currently rocking before heading overseas for a slew of performances in England, Scotland, and Ireland.
